With Beautiful Music and Clear Voices

The “Musical Mission Team” from the USA in the Protestant Church in Dobel

Dobel (hpb) –The joyfully singing students from Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC/USA will visit us again this year on their European tour. They will again delight us with their beautiful music and their clear voices, which they sound out to God’s glory.

It cannot be taken for granted that a group of young Americans would present such well pleasing music. In recent years primarily chaotic sounds and rhythms have come out of the USA, which in part have reduced our own music culture to a lower level. The “Musical Mission Team” sets purposeful goals and desires to motivate Christians in Europe to sing the praise of God through “lovely” songs. The German reformer Martin Luther used this term to translate one of the Bible verses that refer to the style of music appropriate for the Christian church.

For many years the promotion of good music in the church service has been one of the main burdens of the professor responsible for the program of the musical ensemble mentioned above. Professor Dr. W.E. McCauley also knows how to excite young people about beautiful music, and so there have been more than a few of his choir members who have turned from the rock culture as a result of his persuasive leadership.

This is also a main reason that the choir of students comes again and again to us in Europe. Their burden is to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus in song and in word. Because the message is joyful on the one hand, but also because the Word of God is a very serious thing on the other hand, it is important to fulfill this responsibility with music that resounds to the glory of God. This year the young singers will travel for nine weeks through seven European countries. Their tour will take them through Switzerland, Austria, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany, France, and Spain. This weekend they will be guests in Dobel on June 9th/10th.

On Saturday the graduate students from this university team will hold a day seminar. From 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. the timely topic “Communication Devices – Opportunity or Trap?” will be discussed. On Sunday afternoon a concert that has become our tradition will be held in the Protestant Church of Dobel. It will begin at 2:30 p.m. Following the concert the audience will be invited to coffee and cake at the Haus Birkengrund. There will also be opportunity to converse with the members of the Musical Mission Team.
