MMT Update 7/7/2008

Dear Friends,
Our final week of ministry began with our hosts in a national church in Oranienburg, an east German city near Berlin. We enjoyed our fellowship and work with these believers who helped keep the light of the Gospel burning in their region during the dark days of Communism. Since the Wall separating east and west Germany fell in 1989, these dear Christians have been able to expand their ministry in many ways. Earlier this summer the church held a tent revival and saw many unbelievers came to Christ. It was a joy to see some of these new converts as well as a good number of unbelievers in our Oranienburg service.
On Wednesday and Thursday we visited with three faithful Gospel Fellowship Association missionary couples in Magdeburg: Brad and Krischa McKenzie, Kevin and Carol Matthia, and Stephen and Vicki King. We held a nursing home service and an evening concert in the hotel rooms that serve as a meeting place for their church.
Then on Thursday night we went to Halberstadt to minister with the church that Christian and Rebecca Goernandt serve in. For our concert there, held in a university hall, one church member distributed 7000 invitations. Some 50 people who had no prior contact with the church came to the concert. Among them was the mayor of the city. The pastor told us that in one year he could not have reached this many outsiders to the church with the Gospel message. Please pray as the church follows up on these contacts. Hopefully over the next few months these faithful people will see fruit for their labor.
We spent our last weekend on the field with a large group of Swiss believers who gathered at the Guetli conference center near Zurich. There we held a Saturday Bible conference featuring messages by Greg Kielmeyer and Tim Joiner on the topic of materialism. Then on both Saturday night and Sunday afternoon we presented concerts with evangelistic messages for several hundred people who gathered in the Guetli’s large hall. Many believers from the region were able to bring their unsaved family members and neighbors for these services. The team also appreciated the opportunity to learn about the Guetli’s missions philosophy and the organization’s work in several African countries. Many team members were especially moved by the servant’s role that these friends joyfully embrace for the furtherance of the Gospel.
The last formal ministry opportunity for MMT 08 came on Sunday evening at Hotel Bellevue in the mountains above Lucerne. It is indeed a privilege to sing and preach in such a glorious setting. This annual concert brought out several believers from the village of Hasliberg along with many tourists to this beautiful spot in the Alps. We deeply appreciate the hospitality of the Christian staff at Bellevue.
Please continue to pray for us through July 11, when we return to the States. Before then we will have four days of preparation for the trip, testimonies, and opportunities to enjoy the Alps and Lake Geneva. During this time we will focus on what the Lord has done for us as a team and as individuals, how our lives have been changed by this summer of ministry in Europe, and what we intend to do with our lives in light of the Great Commission.
Faithfully yours,
Janie McCauley
