MMT Update 07/02/2009
Dr. McCauley ... Published: 7/2/2009

Kirchberg, Germany
July 2, 2009

Dear Friends,

We have enjoyed many wonderful ministry opportunities in Germany during the past two weeks. First we conducted a weekend Bible conference at Haus Felsengrund, a Christian hotel and conference center in the Black Forest, where we were hosted by the Kurt Philippe family. We had a full house for our Saturday night concert at the hotel. Some people even drove a few hours to be there for the occasion. We’re thankful that the Lord is blessing the ministry at Zavelstein in spite of a worldwide economic downturn, the effects of which we can see in Europe as well as in the U. S. In early October Haus Felsengrund expects to open a new building with three meeting halls in it. We look forward to seeing these new facilities in use by the Lord’s people when we return next summer.

The next leg of our journey took us Hannover, where we ministered for the first time at Evangeliums-Christen Gemeinde. The assembly is made up of a large group of believers, many of whom lived in the Soviet Union before the fall of communism. These people love music and evangelism, so we felt right at home with them. They also sent us to give a concert in a smaller church at Sehnde, which was another new contact for the team.

June 24 found us in Magdeburg, where we held one concert at the church begun by American missionaries Bradley McKenzie and Kevin Matthia. According to these friends, more people who had no connections to the church were at the concert this year than ever before. Around 20 new people, including the former mayor of the city, made up around half the number of those who came. Here we were also able to visit with MMT “grads” Stephen and Vicki King and their sons, Micah and Joel, as well as to meet Hannah Rosalind, their beautiful two-week-old baby girl. Stephen had printed and helped distribute 10,000 invitations to the concert. We believe that the Lord blessed his efforts as well as those of the other church members who helped with the advertising.

Then on June 25 we worked with another MMT “grad,” Rebecca Kelly Goernandt, and her husband, Christian, in the city of Halberstadt. The concert there was an occasion of great rejoicing for members of the small church who hosted us. The concert hall was full with around 90 people who were new contacts for the church and 15 church people. For next year’s concert the church will be looking for a larger hall.

While team members were guests of friends we’ve known since 1991 in the Oranienburg Brethren church, we took a day trip to Berlin. As the Lord would have it, it was the very day of a large gay solidarity march in the city. Our hosts told us how to avoid the route the marchers planned to take. But none of us knew that in front of the Altes Museum, a popular tourist site near the Berliner Dom, a large group of believers from various German cities would be holding an evangelistic outreach. We listened to their music and messages, talked with them, and then joined them for a few songs under their banner that read, “Fear God and keep His commandments.” Tim Joiner had the opportunity to present a clear Gospel message there before we left for our evening service at Hennigsdorf.

Today we are in the middle of a four-day ministry in Kirchberg, hosted by evangelist Dieter Weidensdorfer. In addition to giving concerts at three churches in the region, we will travel to Weiden to conduct an outreach concert at Max Reger Concert Hall for members of a small new church there.

We continue to enjoy the blessings of the Lord’s protection and guidance and believe that our ministry experiences are drawing us all closer to Him. Saturday’s evangelistic event in Berlin brought all of us to a clear understanding that God is working His purposes for the good of His people throughout the world. Please pray with us that the message in word and song as well as the literature distributed that day in Germany’s capital will bring forth fruit in the Lord’s harvest.

In his service,

Janie McCauley
